just got my second hand robinair pump and i beleive i need to use some kind of catch pot so the resin fumes dont make it to th einternals of the pump?? can this be a homemade part as i cant find one for sale ANYWHERE :?
Use a paint pressure pot. It is basically the same thing only more readily available.
Anything that won’t implode will work really.
hose in - lid - can - lid - hose out
You just don’t want any resins flowing down the line and hitting the pump. That would be a whole world of bad :?
so something like this would be ok??

Try something expendable
like make one out of a chunk of 4" Schedule 40 white PVC pipe with endcaps glued on (and barb fittings in the top lid for the hoses)
Simple and cheap way to buffer the pump
I doubt the oil catch can is going to hold up very well to 29" vacuum… they’re quite thin metal
You could probably even use an old pressure cooker, as long as teh seal is still good. Just remove the “wobbler” and pop up and replace with a couple of nipples. You could even add a filter on the inside to be extra cautious.
JHM Technologies in Michigan has a slick vacuum catch pot they make for their resin transfer systems, stainless steel (they clean easily), sealed lid, models for either direct on mold or remote (via polyethylene tubing) installations, not too expensive (although I know that is a relative term). Check it out at rtmcomposites.com

These regularly go on sale for $49.99 or less.
this is what i did…under $10 in materials at Home Depot and it works great
I do like the under $10 price tag, I’ll keep that in mind, just throw it away when full and you can see when the resin reaches it by watching the resin flow through PE tubing, then stop the vacuum. Sounds like a good solution.
…
Don’t throw it in the trash, sell it on EBay!
