Vacuum Bag Pleat Technique

I’m hacking my way through vacuum bagging via trial & error, and Evan’s VIP tutorial helped improve my implementation in two ways:

  1. Putting tape on the INSIDE of the bag for the vacuum connector really improves upon sealing leaks with less effort. I would usually clamp the connector down as far as I could, then have to keep patching tape around the connector on the outside to stop leaks…not as good of a method as Evans.

  2. When creating an envelope bag, folding the bagging material in half so you only tape three side, rather than cutting two full squares and taping all four side… seems so simple, but I guess I wasn’t smart enough to figure that out on my own.

My biggest problem is creating pleats that don’t leak. I’m usually just keep throwing more and more tape on a pleat until I think it stops leaking…there must be a better technique.

Anyone have a simple technique for creating leak-free pleats?
