vaccum infusion on a two part mold

Hi guys, i have two part mold and i now need to make part from this mold and i was wondering how i can infuse using the two part mold such that the resin will not leak, has anyone come across this issue, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I usually put the molds into a bag.
I tried also with a bag over the molds, and seal the coupling with sealant. It works but not the best. I think the better is put the molds into a bag, or study a gasket for the coupling. I don’t know how do the boat builders

thanks for the reply, but doesn’t the mold get stuck from the resin which might leak? please share pics if you have any

mold release wax
I have only these pics…mold with a flange, but I seal the bag to its outer, so I only seal the bolts under the mold

fig 1: the highest part of the mold is where is the flange (undercut part)
fig 2: part demold

but this is a simple mold

On boats (many boat moulds split in half) you can do a couple of things:

-put a bead of sealant tape between the mould halves.

-put 2 beads of sealant tape between the mould halves, apply a high vacuum between the 2 beads.

-design the flanges like VARTM moulds, with an inflatable seal and a lip seal.

Things also depend on acceptable tolerances (1mm extra width is no problem for most boats.)

What I did with success is running a thin bead of silicone all along the flanges and a circle around all the bolt holes joining the parts of the mold. !!! be aware that a VERY thin bead is needed or else it will be EVERYWHERE when you mate the 2 flanges.

Don’t put too much or else it will be difficult for the mold to unite. I left enough time for the silicone to set. It might help to have some sort of sealant that doesn’t shrink as it cures. Also test it on the mold surface somewhere insignificant to see how it releases when cured.

Is this a hollow structure?
