Vac pump?

Wonder if anyone has ever tried one of these: http://www.piab.com/Templates/Page.aspx?id=138

Seems if you already have a reasonable shop compressor, that it would be possible to build a very workable and reliable vac system, for a lot less money than using a separate pump/

I have not used this particular brand but i have used a vacuum pump that worked of my air compressor before. It was very weak. I say this because the amount of vol that it pulled was very small, it took such a long time to pull a fairly large part that the resin had start to cure and the part never laid in the mould correctly.

these look like they are much nicer and more advanced than the cheap version i had. How much do they cost?

I’ve got a Gast model# VG-065-00-00

MAX VACUUM= 27 IN. HG

MAX OPEN FLOW= 6.8 CFM

Works exactly as advertised. Got it off of e-Bay for $20 plus shipping. Think MSRP is near $100US The guage alone is worth more than that.

use an old fridge compressor, the thing will pull a over 26" in no time at all and is silent!
