I want to connect a v-band flange to carbon fiber piping. There are large heat variables in my project so how can I accomplish this?
80 grit sand paper scuff on the Inside diameter. Make the tubing slip inside the v band easily and glue it.
With temperature will this not crack the cf pipe…?
Depends on the temperature difference, the glue properties, and the gap size.
If the part sees a lot of thermal variation, I would suggest a MMA glue (Plexus, Araldite some types) and a larger gap size (Plexus recommends a 1mm gap size anyhow)
Yeah lots of thermal variation 0F-300F. im considering just going with silicon adapters.
Silicone RTV glue? With enough gap, the silicone should work. Will also take out SOME vibrations (not large movements with the engine revving) as well.
I would consult Loctite corporation or Araldite adhesives.
Loctite ( Henkel) actually makes adhesives used to hold aircraft components together… we used some of these inside aircraft gearboxes to hold steel liners in place. Some require oven curing. In my opinion that is better and makes a more permanent bond.
Ask to talk to a chemist at one of these companies.
I like this thread. Any updates. I have been pondering this idea for years.
