UV proofing

hi guys, just a quick one regards making parts UV resistant.
am i correct in thinking that i can use any resin without any uv resistance and then if i clear cote them with an automotive paint that has uv protection then the part will then be protected???
also, how much of a problem is it really gonna be in the UK where we are lucky to see 8 hours sunshine in a month :frowning:

Automotive clear will give protection but it’s not bullet proof. The best auto clear only has about 80% of UV protection. That doesn’t mean it’s not going to work for you. It’ll just take a while for your part to start fading. Although you might not get a lot of sun light in your area, that doesn’t mean that the UV isn’t there. It’s always there in the day time.

ok,i was looking at the west epoxy with special uv hardener, would that be better than a top coat?

You can’t spray epoxy, I’d go with the automotive clear

I would use the west uv hardener AND a top coat if it is an outdoor piece, never have 2 much protection.

So what top coats or gellcoats are actually UV proof then (like name brands that can be used for the first layer/full fill in infusion work )?

I believe the ultra clear gelcoat the Evan sells is…Fibreglast #173 clear gelcoat is also.
