So after reading through a few infusion threads on here, I decided it was time to step up my game and get a digital vac gauge. I bought a JB-DV22N gauge and assumed it was going to be a “hook up and go” type product. I chose this unit because it is manufactured a few hours away and the price was right. After I un-packaged it and tossed a battery in, it lit up, so my instinct was to suck on it to make sure it worked, right? On the microns setting, I could pull 5500 - 6000. As soon as I hooked my vac line up and started to pull a vacuum, it displays “1”(over range) in all units. It jumps around as I release the vacuum, but never gives a proper/stable reading. I deemed the unit defective and had the seller ship me another as a replacement. Ironically enough, the same situation occurred again. I have been infusing with VE lately and can smell some styrene in the lines. It’s probably time to change the oil and I suspected the sensors could have gotten “dirty?”. I flushed them with alcohol, connected new lines, and was able to get ~1500 microns in minute or so and stopped there. I released and applied the vacuum a few more times and it soon displayed the “1” again. Have any of you guys experienced similar issues with digital gauges? Are they really that sensitive? Do I have to change my oil much more frequently to use one, or is there a way to protect it from the resin fumes? Any help is greatly appreciated.
