hi guys
i made a mold in the last couple days. its CNC’d from aluminum. the plan is to pressure-cast a 2 part urethane plastic into it.
basically the process is to fill the mold with liquid plastic, put it in a pressure pot at around 60psi till it hardens, then remove from the pot, demold, off you go
problem/question:
the part i am molding is a preform made of urethane plastic o be embedded or attached to the core of another part. these all get put into another mold and are infused as one piece (epoxy).
so the problem im having is that i have always used a silicon release spray as a release agent for my urethane parts. i have never had to post-bond to them however, much less use them as an integral part in a composite part. silicon is VERY difficult to clean off completely, and contaminates other materials easily, so the bond between my urethane parts and the rest of the part is in danger i would think.
anyone know how to easily wash away silicon release spray? i guess we can get a grit/bead blaster if we have to… i was even thinking mabe just get an old dishwasher?
maybe another type of release would work? keeping in mind its aluminum mold, and a 2 part urethane plastic (at this point) that must successfully bond to an infusion epoxy later on…
thanks for any help!
