Ultrasonic Leak Detectors

Anyone use them and if so got any recommendations or tips for usage? I’m debating buying one but I want to make sure I get one that works WELL. I’m gonna be pretty peeved if an infusion fails cause I bought a bad device.

I use an Accutrak VPE and I would not go without one now. It takes like 20sec to find that pesky tiny leak which you otherwise would never hear but was keeping you at 90%. This is so very important when autoclaving as at pressure there is 5 times more air going into the hole than just under vacuum.

There is a bit of practise needed to know when you have found the leak and not just the air rushing to the vacuum, and you need somewhere quiet without wind otherwise you just hear that. I made myself a bag then put holes in it and gaps in the tacky tape to see what each would sound like.

Bottom line is they are an expensive bit of kit but compared to the cost of wasted material and time they are cheap as.
