ultrasonic leak detector question

Who out here is using one? Does it really make that much of a difference. It has been months since I have had a seam leak in my bag but, on occasion I will get a pin sized hole in my bag just from handling it and never know it is their until I infuse and the air starts a running. Working with laminates that have $500-$600 in just materials to have them screw up because of air really sucks.

I have one; although, I don’t use it very often. I use it maybe once a month. However, when I do use it, it makes finding leaks much easier.

Great tool. It takes out all the guess work.

Hmmmm…interesting enough. Ive never even seen one in use and wouldnt have the slightest idea of how it worked. Id like to figure it out though. It may prove to be a great tool.

I bought a cheapie one but it is down at the classroom…where a lot of My tools are…LOL!

I’ll take a digital picture and post it here, so until then…let’s see your stetoscopes:eek:…opps wrong forum, ultrasonic leak testers!

Stethoscope as in engine diagnostic one with the tube or a medical one?

How does it work? Just hover it around your bag and listen for the whistle?

Pretty much. I used to use a stethoscope… then i got sick of it.

I (got my hand up in the air) get it!
“stethoscope… then I got sick of it.”

Stethoscope = Doctor = Sickness! :rolleyes::smiley:

Do you use the headphones or watch the led lights shoot up ??

I’ve only used mine with the audible sound from the unit itself which has a volume control. I think in the case that I have stored in a box up high there are some headphones though, but I’ve not used them. It works fine with the audible sound.

Some ultrasonic sound detectors are better for hearing vacuum type leaks rather than pressure leaks. I was told that mine is good for vacuum leaks. I think at one point Airtech sold my type, but they now have a different one.

We bought a leak detector about 2 months ago. Wont bag anything with out it now.

I dont care how good you are (and I thought I was) at detecting leaks by ear, but this thing is unreal.

I bought one through my supplier that was sold by airtech. I paid a fortune for it. One of my “Former” employees knocked it on the ground and broke it.
I have been looking for another one and found a link a few months back for a brand new one for under $200.00. I can’t find the link for it now.
Anybody know of a good source?
In the mean time. take a 1/2 inch i.d. tube about 18 inches long and hold it to your ear. it works better than a stethoscope.

Led’s are pretty good.I’ve even introduced smoke along the hard to find ones.

I’ve got something the kid came up with called the “Spy Ear Hearing” thingy! Whatever. You’ll find them on e-bay for a couple of bucks. They do work but aren’t all that good for those pesky tiny leaks.

I’m looking at picking up one of these.

You can find them on the net for about $200.
