u.s. composit 635 thin

it is 600 cps .Dose anyone use it or 8086 from fiberglass supply

The US Composites resin is ok, but stay away from the slow hardener. Their epoxy is cheap for a reason.

Out of curiosity, what’s wrong with their slow hardener? Ive only used their fast hardener and resin for making small cosmetic stuff.

Using their slow hardener, the 635 epoxy resin takes hours to gel and days to cure! Worst of all, the resin never fully hardens and the parts stay flexible.

Good to know, I’ll stay away from their resin. Any recommendations on a resin with similar properties?

Would this resin be suitable for a set of dive fins? I actually want my fins to be flexible.

Just so you know, US Composites will tell you NONE of their resin is suitable for infusion. I’ve had the conversation with them already.

That is unfortunate. I figured since it said Low viscosity it would be good for infusion. Has anyone used 635 and had success with it for a infusion?

The slow hardener requires an elevated temperature cure to fully cure. It will not fully cure at room temp.

As Wyo said it will not cure at RT. But even though they say it is not for infusion, it can be infused. Standard infusion setup with a resin break and you can get parts with no surface imperfections. But as TET basically said this resin is $@!t… Get some Rhino, Epoxy-n-fusion, or Proset…

As far a structural properties go, USC 635 exceeds many systems that are more expensive. The downside is that it has some handling issues due to it’s viscosity. Several years I ago a did a big round of batch testing of many resins to test their properties. USC 635 definitely wasn’t the worst. It did better than any MAS, West Systems, or Resin Research Resin. In some tests it gave MGS 285 (premium and excellent layup epoxy) a run for it’s money. USC 635 takes a long time reach it max physical properties unless you add heat. After only 24 or 48 hours many resins seem to outperform it. After 7 days at room temp (2 weeks for the slow) it looks much better. Add some heat and it might surprise you. Dollar for dollar it’s not a bad resin compared to other budget minded epoxies.
