Trying to Dispence Resin

From the 5 gal pails that dont have the plastic thing that pops out (it looks like a drum ) how the HECK do you get the resin out. i keep wasting resin b/c i tilt it to the side and its all over the place =(
i cant find a pump big enough.

also, does anyone have some black resin pigment they can send my way? i want to try out an overlay.

US Plastics (or MacMaster Carr, Graingers, etc…) has SS 5 gail pail pump and I’ll post a picture of my set up later as I have some running around to do.

Also, tipping pail dispensors are in the for sale section on here too…

i need something that has thread on the inside. not thread that go on the outside. hmm… almost like a screw. in other words,… ex:

If you look at a Bottle cap, and put it upside down. that is what is on the pail. and i need something that will fit in that. =(. i dont know what to search for. but that is a start.

do what I do…

Go to lowes, get yourself (5) 1 gallon pails and the “no mess lids” cost you about 4 bucks a container and pour your stuff in those.

There are two immediate benefits to this…

  1. you dont make messes any more
  2. you have less air in contact with your resin after using some so it wont go bad on you as fast.

Contact with air is a bit of a problem with resins as Ive learned over the last 2 years. When I store resin in 1 gallon cans I get less tint change from age. I attribute this to 4 gallons not being exposed to oxygen and what not when Im only using 1 gallon at a time.

uve got a point! ill also put a spout on the gal containt first =) but wait! wont the resin (vinyl ester ) eat through the plastic?

I dunno if it eats plastic but the lids I buy have built in spouts. They are literally named “Less Mess” or “No Mess” or something like that.

The 1 gallon can costs 3 bucks and the lid costs a buck something.

I had the same problem with my 55 gallon drum of resin…until I put it in 5 gallon buckets and then even them down to 1 gallon cans.

I waste a lot less and have way less clean up.

Hybrid R,
You don’t KNOW if it eats plastic ? Are these pails you speak of made of something else ?

With the 5gal. buckets of products I use regarding Eurothanes for flexible moulding…they have a “heavy gas” aeresol spray that we spray into all containers…like a gas blanket to stop pre-cure.
Vinny

Im going to see if i can find some aluminum / metal type buckets that have lids + install a spout of some sort.

WW that is nitrogen and the container still needs to be fully sealed too.

Here’s a photo of our 5 gallon pail with the SS pump attached with an 1" electrical cable fitting abd leaving the pail cap for adding more resin, additives or evn mixing with a small diameter mixer:

Also, Home Depot sells a yellow screw on pour spourt that fits most pail lids too.

Actually no…I DONT KNOW IF IT EATS PLASTIC.

I use poly only.

The cans you buy at lowes and HD are steel cans and steel lids. The pour spouts are plastic.

Happy?
