Hello everyone,
I always use Partall paste#2 wax.
I applay it and after 20-30seconds buff it.
Now I need high temp wax so I bought TR-104.
No directions on box
How long should I wait for buffing after applaying ?

10-15 minutes per application is what I have been doing. I have been using that wax religously for about 5 years and never had a part stick yet
Thanks for info
normal I apply 2xfrekote + 2xpartall wax
this time 2x frekote and more or less or the same coats of TR104 ?
Wait about 5 minutes after applying to buff off the wax. The TR104 works pretty much the same as other paste wax.
except for PartAll, which imo is the worst mold wax on the market. It works good for release purposes, but it sure is hard to buff.
I bet the TR is way better
yes its hard to buff byt it very fast dry but it
s time to try TR
The last time i used TR High temp wax on one of my plugs, i brushed the tooling gel coat on it kept wanting to (fish eye) or break away from itself, I had to keep going over the break away areas with the gel coat any finally got it to cover the whole plug. I am going to start to spray my plugs soon instead of brushing, will i have the same problem. any ideas?
like I said I have used it for years and years with no issues. I have been spraying my gel coat. I have never brushed gel coat before
I found out the same thing with TR. Thickening the gel coat with cabosil or similar will help. Spraying the gel-coat works fine too.
It’s common to brush gel coats in UK (and I imagine NZ too). I assume the gel coat is thicker there than what we get in the US.
Polyester gelcoats over here come labeled as ‘Brushing gel coat’. It’s far too thick to spray and when I approached my outlet about spraying it they simply sold me some Styrene and told me to thin it 10% max.
So now I’m buying expensive thick gelcoat and then paying again to undo the work which was done in the factory making it thick in the first place…
I think I am going to be asking about the availability of spraying gelcoat next time…
As regarding spraying:
I have a GS100 cup gun, it can cost a whopping $530 over here! (I don’t think I paid that much) It seems an almost pointless item to me, I can find only one advantage of it and that is it gives a slightly better and consistent finish on flat parts (If the gel is thin enough) with less chance of sharp ‘peaks’ as you lift off with the brush.
Disadvantages:
It’s costly to buy.
It’s costly to run: The large w’shop compressor works overtime to keep up.
It’s messy: (you have to have a specially masked off area to use it as it splatters everywhere) and it still needs cleaning down afterwards with acetone like a brush, not the cup obviously
It’s slow: it takes ages to build up a good thickness which resists gatoring.
On complex moulds with difficult to reach areas you cannot get in to spray, it also favours the high points and then coats thinly the low points or misses the shadows behind them.
All in all I wasn’t very impressed…
I can maybe see an advantage in using it with resin and a chopper gun, but although I could import a CP, constantly importing the roving would prove to be a PITA. I will make some more enquiries as to the availability of such things here in the UK, but haven’t found anything yet.
Sorry for the rant, I feel better now! Anyone any solutions?
Sounds like you’re just using the wrong gelcoat. With the proper stuff, the gun works great.
You should be using about 2oz of gelcoat per square foot of area.
We got some TR-104 today from our local supply guy… so nice he drives up in a truck and has everything we need inside for supplies, ver, per, tooling resin, sand paper, gel coat, csm, tri-axial… i love that damn truck:D
I’ll try some of the TR later this week.
tr high temp needs to be left to dry off in a haze before being buffed off. unlike tr reguler or 110 that need to be waxwd on and off in one go.

I wish we had a supply truck like that in Northern Ireland,Instead of a 60 mile round trip to the nearest composite supply shop
