Who makes a good toughened laminating epoxy for room temp and high temp? Is there an additive to make a resin toughened?
contact Cytec and API (Applied Polymerics Inc or something? i think they are based out of PA)
We use Cytec 977-2 and -3 resins in their prepregs. Cure at 350.
A rubber additive can be added to increase peel strength.
The company we use has lots but I don’t think they ship out of New Zealand
I believe you can add interlayers of plastic as well, like PES and PSU. Some dissolves into the epoxy. You might loose some interlaminar strength, but you will gain in toughness and fracture resistance. I just read recently on a company using PP fibers with CF fibers (intermingled tows?) and they had the CF piece fold in half, not fracture in 2!!!
Does cytec have toughened resin not in prepreg? It was all I cam across on their site.
I have some toughened resin from cass polymers, does allright, but was looking for some alternatives especially from larger chemical company. I also haven’t had any luck finding anything from huntsman, which is a bit surprising.
One group here is using their 977 resin…but maybe it was a special batch for testing? I figured they sell the prepreg or just resin. I have no contact for them, else I’d give you my source
