I am having this problem with small amounts of resin sticking to the mold. The problem appears to be that the fabric is pressed so tightly against the mold that the resin does not get a chance to form a complete surface layer and only fills the gaps in the twill fabric at the surface next to the mold. When you release the piece, there are trace amounts of resin left on the mold and the surface of the piece is not smooth. I was thinking about using a very light weight glass cloth first to allow this layer to form. By the way, this is using epoxy verses a clear gel coat with VER which is what I mainly use on larger pieces, especially those that are exposed to high heat.
without gel coat this semi-normal. Whta resins have you been using? Some epoxies will help with this because they are thicker.
I have been using a clear, epoxy resin that is about 400 cps mixed and works well for infusion. The thicker resins make infusion difficult. Since it is thinner, this probably contributes to the problem. I was thinking about actually brushing down a surface coat and then laying up the fabric to help facilitate surface build. What do you think about that?
hell its worth a try. On some stuff that I infuse with 100 viscosity ver and it does it pretty bad but they are functional pieces so it doesn’t matter
