Tips or tricks with peel ply tight corners

I have some car molds with tight corners and I’m having a hard time getting the peel ply to completey get into those tight radius corners without bridging.ive tried applying some vac and tried working it in. I know this may not be right but has anyone tried a little 77 trim spray to hold it down peel ply into complex corners?

layering unjoined pieces of pp and or relief cuts.

working the stack into the crevasses as vacuum is pulled gradually

I use Airtac 2 adhesive from Airtech all the time to infuse.

Hi Irwin, i have a can of Airtac 2, but it kinda leaves some residue on the part even when i think i applied a light mist, any application tricks you can share?

thanks

What resin are you using. 3M super77 is fine for Poly and Vinyl. Its not compatible with epoxy.

Im using epoxy system [sp115 by gurit]

Good to know glad havent done a lot with super 77, I haven’t seen any problems but I will switch to airtec 2. Thanks for the info. Btw im using epoxy

Hey Tom what do you do with that air bubble ?How do you fix that?

dart, cut, and add smaller pieces as needed. peelply does not shear well, so you have to make due with other methods.

3M 77 IS airtac 2… It is the same product just rebranded…

it gets painted

I have trouble with airtac 2 dissolving in ve resins. I see spots afterwards. The 77 seems to dissolve better. Also they spray differently. I really believe they are different products but who knows.

That is interesting. I have never used Airtac. I haven’t had any probs using super77 with VE. But it doesn’t disslove with the epoxies I use.

what product do you recommend to use with epoxy? I use 3M77

Have any of you guys try tacking down the peelply?

I use 77 and tac2 with epoxy. the tac2 seems to come out of the can lighter and is not as heavy as 77. I do not know if there is any difference in the two chemically but for tacking the plies and peel ply I use tac2. For resin flow lines & green flow I use 77

I would like to know what the negative effect they have with epoxy. My process with it has not compromised any part I built that I can tell.

(the fender in the pic is made of 3 plies 2x2 5.6 and soric core it’s very stiff)

I use cab o sill for all the really tight detail edges, and just lay my carbon over it. Works out really nice, no bubbles or pockets to repair after demolding. But I’m also over a primer not clear.

I’ve been using the soric mat also in my infusions, stuff is nice.

hi Tom.
We noticed that the super77 wasn’t dissolving in epoxy. We haven’t had that problem with vinylester resin, and the tech advice we received was that the styrene dissolves the super77. We still use it for vinylester. For epoxy we have been using Zyvax Stayz Spray Interface. However Zyvax have been having issues with the delivery system ( aerosol can and preval sprayer ).

I’ve been trying to find a distributor for Zyvax since I read your post. Any info for finding it in So. Cal USA?
