Time Attack build from Australia

Here’s a link to what I’ve been building for the last year or so. Still have to do the final clearcoat. Great to see it up and running. Cheers, Brad
Will post some more pics when I get them.

To give you a brief rundown on what we did in composites.

We started by moving the front guards/fenders outboard by 100mm each side then split the bonnet and front bumper down the centreline and moved them out to mate with the guards. Filled the 200mm space on CL along with the headlight and indicator areas as well as any other obsolete ducts. Made a three piece tool. Front clip 10.5 kg.
The doors we fused the originals together and made a single tool for each side. Doors total 10 kg. Originals were approx 25kg each x 4 is 100 kg. By using this method we saved on tooling in a big way ie only 2 tools rather than 8 if we made a tool for each outer skin and one for each inner.

The rear clip was done in a similar fashion to the front clip. Rear guards, bumper and bootlid all one piece. 8.5 kg total. The origial boot lid was 11kg just by itself.
Front undertray is from the front to the firewall then small mid undertray flowing into the rear diffuser.

All components are posts cured infused epoxy

I gotta say, wtf is up with the shape? Is it all cad designed for speed?

Nice! Twin turbo. Is there any way you could give up some specs on the turbo setup.

wow I was shown this elsewhere earlier today, looks like an interesting project to be involved in, however I would doubt/wonder about some of the aero work on the car.
That diffuser would amaze me if it work efficiently, It must get massive flow seperation along the inside corners that will cause a big boundry layer making it very inefficient.

Composite work looks nice tho

Got boost  !

Very nice work ! Good luck with the time attack ! 4g63t engine are very strong !! V8 Killer

Wonderful project. I tend to follow the Time Attack stuff on MotoIQ/Speedhunters/etc with interest - so much creative engineering.

I notice you’re logging things with Motec, including aero. Are you doing this with string pots on the shock housings or actually measuring air pressure in various parts of the car? There are some neat (and cheap) MEMS pressure sensors on the market I’ve been toying with for similar use.

Hi Mountainman, Sorry I don’t know much about the power train as I just do composites.
Fritzintn, Not sure if this will answer your question, but I believe there are or will be load cells between chassis and spring to measure aero effect.

fantastic, looking forward to seeing it in action.

hey dude, seen this on speedhunters a few weeks ago. absolutely love it!!
it would seem that money isnt really a consideration here, so just curious as to why infusion, why not prepreg and bleed? not a criticism, just a curiosity. id give at least one of my nuts to build something like this, but always envisaged prepreg/nomex etc. perhaps weight not too big an issue given the savings so far or more for the surface finish you get from infusion?
ive been involved in some pretty cool cars over the years, but this thing is ridiculous. christ im jealous!!!

Nice work Brad, that took some serious effort it looks like. The 4g63 will always have a place in my heart.

Hi Riff, The shape started out as a Mitsubishi evo7 so it has that base shape then the rest is what the aero guys have given us. It’s just about creating as much downforce as possible.

Zac, Budget wise we made glass tooling and carbon pre-preg in glass tooling is a pain because of difference in CTE between the two. Also infusion for surace finish.

cheers for the reply dude.
figured it mustve been along those lines of reasoning, no argument there.
cant wait to see ot in action!!!

Some nices shots, Just need to get some composite close ups.

Great work Brad. As with anything on this scale…huge kudos for getting it all completed ! That is a ton of aero study to commit to molding for sure.

wow, I’m surprised at all the car people here…

Nemo Racing, great job at annihilating the wtac competition, what was it, over 2 seconds?

thats absolutely banana’s… Batman is definitely jealous… ( nice work )

This car is one of my favs. I was bummed about Tilton taking the top, but I bet this car comes back for 2014 and decimates.
