I remember a web site with some type of device that helped you mold the threads off a piece and put it into your mold for locations. Does anyone have the link or a site with stuff like that?
I’m working on a part that has 8 bolts about 1 inch long and probably m4 thread. They need to be pretty exact and it’s something I would like to cast in the part with infusion rather then second if possible.
Why exactly do you want to do it as part of the infusion rather than secondary bonding?
There’s obviously ways to do it, but none of them are as easy as secondary bonding unless you are aiming to make hundreds of the things.
you can also use just about any type of insert including rivet nuts. You can do this starting in the plug phase and go to mould, then finally back to part. It can save a lot of time, and make position very repeatable, however you do have to be careful to not allow resin to enter the threads.
I want to use the mount during infusion because it needs to be in almost that exact location. I guess I could just chop the studs off the plug and make sure the hole will be accurate but I’m not the best at that. I figured designing it in the mold would be better then maybe using a center drill and other things to do it better later.
It’s not something you can twist to get the rivet but off. It’s basically like a piece of all thread sticking out of the part in certain locations I need to mimic so I thought using some type of clever design and bighead mounts would work
Bond t-nuts to your mold face with CA glue and then fill the threads with melted wax.
