Threaded insert suggestions.

I’m looking for suggestions for using stainless steel threaded inserts in a part with a final thickness of .225". The inserts have to be flush. The thread is #8-32 UNC These points won’t be carrying a big load but will have to endure some low level shock. Does anyone have any suggestions for a specific part or source? I need to round up some info on the quick.

Thank you ahead of time,
Chris

can you use rivet nuts?

Word, either rivet nuts (http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-rivet-nuts/=q65i3z) or a threaded flush mount captive nut (http://www.mcmaster.com/#94674a520/=q65j6b).

Or, if you’re really picky about the dimensions, use a bushing and tap it yourself.

Timesert pn/08322

8-32x250 install and grind flush.

10-32 has a grip better suited for your thickness at .187.

Timesert are much better than a helicoil.

Excellent and thanks everybody. I have some studying to do before tomorrow.

I have just done some inserts in our boats with these T nuts.

I normally these are meant for furniture where the spikes would stick into the wood to locate it.

I glued them flat side against the back of my laminate holding them in place with nylon bolts and epoxy glue, then some laminate over the back of them too while the glue is wet.

I was going to suggest the bigheads brand, as Herman did above, but you would likely need to have a custom fastener made.

I spent three weeks trying to get someone from Bighead to get in touch with me, but they then directed me to Bossard.

The staff at Bossard got me my order of 100 units, and shipped them to me in about 14 days time.
