This place sucks !!!

Noooooooo- not this forum, I am so glad that I found it !!! The UK officially sucks - as far as getting any help with composite training goes anyway!

Anyhow I’ve been trying to find someone over here that I can pay to show me the things I need to know and get me started with infusion and / or bagging of carbon etc… I dont necessarily need a full-on tutorial just a bit of hands-on / demo of the processes involved and a bit of Q&A. I regularly work with grp, make my own moulds, sell stuff I make etc… so it’s not like I need to be baby’ed along right from the start !

I think the problem I have over here is that we have very limited industry for the cosmetic side of things, with it mostly being motorsport / F1 based pre-preg structural stuff which is not what I am after or ever likely to afford to do, as much as it interests me !!!

All I want to do is make the trims and things I currently make for cars but in CF with a good quality finish. I could go about this on a trial and error basis from the start but some supplies are fairly scarce / expensive here so I would prefer to set off in the right direction by learning a little first. This site has been hugely informative to me and I intend to hang around and help out (with grp queries for now!!) I should also thank GGROP for his advice and to get me here from the fibreglast site and also Dual Twill for his kind help with choosing a vacuum pump.

So this is an appeal to anyone here, private individual / company etc… who would be willingly to let me watch /assist with some of the processes for a few hours a day for a few consecutive days and again I am expecting to have to pay for the privilege much like I would if taking a class over here.

I am prepared to travel to the US (or anywhere) as I can double it up with a holiday for my wife and despite being well travelled I have never been to the States so that would be a fun thing to do. I’m 34, good natured, willing to learn and quick on the uptake.

If anyone thinks there could be a possibility of accomodating my needs and are prepared to see if we can work something out that would be great.

My sincere thanks for your interest

Graham

pm’ed you  No need to pay me I will get free work out of you  I can fully train you in a week! Start to finish plug design all the way to buffing your finished piece.

Graham, your welcome!

I see that “OTHER” forum is down for the count or they are redoing it so they can regulate it more…?

There are several on here from the UK I think and maybe they can help you out too?

Well, I’m off to go to class as the new semester starts tonight! 1/2 of the class returning and the other 1/2 and newbies, but that is the reason I’m there!

I just wish the ROP had cleared my new course outlines of 2x seperate classes (TP & TS) as they said they would…but? They still want me to teach both classes at the same in the same room until enough people are enrolled in both to split them up! Go figure…

DT you have PM back

GGROP - good luck with the class !! I used to teach rally driving here in the UK. There is nothing like the sense of achievement you get watching someone you teach things to learning and applying them. They’re lucky to have you…anytime you guys fancy a vacation in the UK…

yeah, the “other” forum had some probs at the end of last year too… or was it in the summer… either case, that’s how long it’s been since i’ve been there, and I haven’t looked back. The ability to talk real shop, and not fiberglast’s shop really helps the learning curve.

g8g8 … have a look at the ROCATwebsite, and if you find what see interesting, get in touch.
