I’m looking for a dry carbon cloth that is thick. I have had the multiaxial before and I like it but it is only .020" thickness. I am wanting to build up 3/16" total thickness with as few layers as possible. Ideas?
You will have thought about using a coremat?
I recently did a hood using good old mop n bucket poly, a 5mm core, gelcoat and e-glass. For such a simple, quick and cheap method I was very happy with the results - a sturdy bonnet, 1/3rd weight of OE and no warping (even after a week or so).
Sorry to have lowered the tone a bit and rambled on…:o
Why does the amount of plies matter? Too few, and the part may lack strength in certain orientations.
You can use 6 or 12k cloths, or heavy NCF’s. There’s plenty of stuff out there, in many styles.
It was going to be for a rear diffuser/wings. Guy wanted a faux diffuser made for his car.
tell him to use cardboard then…it’ll be faux enough.
each weaver normally has their down type of thick material…be it a woven roving, or stiched. My last roll from Saertex was quasi-iso…4 layers and core was thick!!!
I deal with 96oz glass all the time. 3 layers is almost 1/4"
in a local dealer they have even 1kg/m carbon! and its cheap too… comparing it to 200gr/m, its twice the price of the 200grm, but 5 times the weight!
local dealer… you suck:p , I have no local carbon fiber supplier. My local suppliers mainly deal in resins and other consumables.
bwahahaha!
i have several local ones actually but only one has everything, and is the cheapest too.
