Texalium question

Hello forum:

I am planing to customize by retrofiting my headligths, I would like to make some custom shroulds by vacumm forming and also a hand layup on them with some nice looking silver color texalium.

I have gattered most of the required supplies, but after doing some handlayups with black CF, I know that a black color resin is used as a first cover before of the CF black layup in order to avoid to see the orignal part color through the black CF.

But for silver texalium, I would like to have a recomendation from your expertise, I wonder if the first resin on the part should be black as on the black CF or could be better if I use maybe a white solid color resin below the texalium the first resin. Which should look better?

Thanks

Antonio

Go for the white solid first, imho it will make for a lighter more reflective finish. I was a little disappointed at how much the cloth darkened once applied.

Here is a pic of my old wooden canoe its 37 years old my father built it for me when I was six its been left outside for many years and was in a sorry state. I decided to referb it for my daughter. Epoxy and some silver color texalium cloth that I was given as a sample. It turned out ok but it would have beeen nice to have kept the dry cloths relectivness which I had hoped for. The stars and letters on the hull are also the texalium masked off when painted.

I did one layup with Texalium. The finished product reminded me of a dead fish. It’s also difficult to work with if you are doing unassisted hand layups.
