System 2000 and UV light

I got a quart of this to learn with- and to make a plug over foam. I just tested it and it is foam safe.

Looking through the data sheet shown here: http://cdn.fibreglast.com/downloads/00343-A.pdf , I don’t see any mention of UV resistance, so I’m assuming there is zero. Does anyone know if I am incorrect in my assumption?

Anyone know of a spray can clear that has UV protection? I went to Autozone last night and found out their automotive clear in a can does not provide a UV barrier. I’d rather not shoot deltron, but I will if I have to… :frowning:

I think Fibreglast buys PTM & W resin and repackages it with their label, FYI…
No it’s not UV stable and sorry I don’t know of a UV clear coat off the top of my head. I think Sherwin Williams has one, but last I checked it was special order and expensive. Go drive down to your local Auto body supply shop they will know what you need for a clear and more then likely have it in stock.

Another FYI, PTM & W makes some really good resin systems. I use their Epoxy N-Fusion system. It’s a infusion resin for tooling and another for your parts.

Resin Research claim to have a UV stable Epoxy, give them a ring.

What are you trying to fabricate? Pretty much all epoxy resins yellow over time, but some less than others. System three makes some really good ones. We also produce our own in house that’s designed with UV inhibitors and optical brighteners for surfboard production. If it’s something that’s getting direct sunlight with a light, or clear background then I’d spend the extra dough to put a UV resistant clear coat over it if possible.

A wing for a car. I will definitely put a UV clear coat over it- that is a given (and the reason for the post), but even automotive clears let some UV light through. So a UV resistant epoxy is pretty important. Thanks for all the replies!
