I’ll be spraying a clear UV gelcoat w/cup gun on my parts, and the biggest part I’d ever be doing would be an automotive hood. I’ve tried searching the forums with no luck and I’m not sure what specs I need for an air compressor. What would I need to get the job done? …I’m hoping to budget under $400. :wondering: Thanks.
Look at the instructions that came with your gun. They will give a minimum air requirement. Get a compressor that exceeds that. Having said that, I’ve run guns using a cheap 99.- EUR compressor from the hardware store without problems. It cycles more frequently than the one I have now but it never ran out in mid spray.
The 21 gallon 4 scfm @ 90 psi from harbor freight should be more than enough for any gun I’ve ever seen. you can pick one up for under 200 bucks and sometimes find them on sale for as low as 160 before tax.
