success!

well ok,its only fibreglass but this is a composites forum
i wanted to try a new combination of mats as the first one of these i did was way to thick so i just used 1 layer of tissue,1 layer of 450grm mat and another layer of tissue, the new release wax worked perfectly and the part requires no sanding at all as its designed to be painted so thats the body shops job  this might not seem like a big deal to some but to get this far has taken maybe 8 months, lots of cash, lots of mistakes and i have learnt so much from you guys this would have been impossible without you.so many thanks.just gotta crack this dam carbon now

but my dremel exploded

If the mat is real thick, you can peel it nearly in two thinner pices.

Stew that looks ACE!!! (i know its prob for your car but which part)
congrats!

carbon is not that hard i am kinda new to this material myself i had worked with it before just not on clear gell the #1 thing i learned was right here on this forum from problems lay it in on tacky gell!!! before wet out just curious what hapened with fish eye probleem i may want to try some of the banna wax

yeah interested to hear about the fisheye problems too

i just brushed the gelcoat on much thicker  and there were none.the clear gel i have is getting old now and it was only cheap stuff, the white gel on this part is new and lyyods approved.i need to get a gelcoat depth gauge…

1 problem i see already with carbon fiber and brushing on the clear gel coat if it is rough it may distort the fibers also the clear i work with is not compleatly clear if it is not even it may streak i learn this because i layed over a drip from my gun and it could be seen

Mine has a habit of doing that, probably something to do with the amount of carbon it swallows. Lifetime guarantee thou!! I have also been electricuted a few times when it draws in a strand of carbon in to the motor. Watch out for that one, it doesnt half make you jump… maybe its time for air tools??

Richard

just swopped it for a new one today 8) unfortunately i dont have the room for air tools at the moment,it would certainly make everything i do 10000% easier though :frowning:

Most of the time (at lest at the classroom) thet thing that goes bad with Dremels is the inner plastic coupler strips and you can buy them seperately.

gt,
Congrats. I remember the feeling that I had when I made my first fiberglass part. i was 13 and in middle school (jr. high) grade 8. I was in my general shop class and I turned a wood planter mold / plug for a planter. After we removed the wood plug from the lathe, we waxed and PVA’d it and then we layed it up with glass and polyester. it was my first shot at f/g. I came back to school the next day and the instructor had me drill a hole at the base and we blew air into the hole. it popped out in seconds, and I couldn’t believe how neat that was. I have been hooked since.

Again…Congrats.

made the final part today, that other piece was just half of this mold.its turned out 100% perfect, just needs trimming and err thats it,gotta make its brother now and then its sell sell sell
