I checked with a thermal gun my freezer latelly and i got the reading of -31 celcius. The manufacturers say my prepreg should be stored in -18 celcius . Does this mean i am damaging the prepreg in any mean?
I’ve had mine in the freezer at -30 for about 8 months now, it’s totally fine.
The guys at EC said they weren’t totally sure because theirs is stored at -18, but they do believe it will be fine. It’s just important to keep the rolls in a sealed bag of some sort to prevent any ice or condensation from forming on the material. Leave it in the sealed bag when you bring it out of the freezer until it is up to room temp.
Then lower the temp then longer it will bve usable. It is important that you don#t get moistre in the prepreg.
-18 is the minimum temp for the supplied shelf life specified by the manufacturer. colder wont hurt it. One of the freezers we have is set at -54C… ANd that’s the highest setting.
Yes, you might be damaging it . Some epoxy resin are not supposed to bear such low temperature for long periods.
