Storing chemicals in cold weather?

Hey guys, I’m in the process of moving into an “out building” at my new place. It is only heated when I am in there so it does get fairly cold (NJ winters and not insulated the best). What is the best way to store my chemicals (PE Resins/epoxy)? Do I need to build a temperature controlled cabinet of some sort or will a Fire cabinet be sufficient?

Thanks!

Some epoxies will crystallise when stored at cold temperatures for long periods. However the effect is totally reversible when rewarmed in an oven.

If you remelt the resins before use and then allow them to fully cool to mixing temperature before adding the hardeners you should be fine.

It is probably more important that you keep the containers sealed to prevent moisture ingress rather than worrying about crystallisation / viscosity increase due to low temperature (assuming that you have the capability to heat the resins).

^^ Thank you!! just making sure, didnt want my 5 gallon pails to go bad =(

some epoxy hardners will lose their working if stored under freezing point, ask your supplier. I warm up crystallized epoxy in warm water, without the lid on for the pressure…
