Quick question on spread tow fabric, I wondered how stable the cloth is for wet lay up and bagging? It would be for a cosmetic over lay on a sea kayak.
If you take the spread tow from Oxeon, they have a binder and some sort of roving on the backside and a plastic foil to keep it from fraying. So nice sharp cutting edges when you cut them all at once (even without the plastic foil). I keep the plastic foil on as long as I can, when doing my lay up. I use it with the infusing process, but I don“t see any problem in a wet lay up and vacuum bagging. Looking at the RC forums, the guys use it plenty with wet lay up in their model gliders.
You can soften the binder with a hair dryer, then the fabric conforms better, but can fray easier as well.
Thanks for the info on binder and plastic backing thatts handy to know.
