Recommendations for an affordable machine to spray thick coatings? As thick as about 25000 cp (like chocolate syrup) with a coating thickness of about 70-80 mils (little over 1/16"). Thanks.
Best system out there. Sprays gels, epoxys, and primers very well. You can clean the head and toss the liners in the trash. I ordered 2 guns and 100 liners 20 heads and cups…
Still on the first head and about half way through the liners.
For very thick stuff your going to have to go to an airless system… They are a pain. And dangerous. For hvdp I recommend binks… But… They are also a pain in the ass. Our old binks had a box of wasted guns part etc that are ruined because people are lazy.
A mixed airless will spray all day and shoot all day from a 5 gallon Pail. They are cheap and will lay down the thickness you want. Clean up consists of pouring mek or acetone in a clean pail. Draw chemical through the gun an hoses and let it sit. Clean out the pump and soak the gun. Clean it good so it’ll work the next time.
You might spend 3000 on a drum pump system… Or 500-800 on an airless. Both work and honestly the airless will spray even thicker liquids where the hvdp wont
Thanks for the advice, sounds good. Any specific recommendations for a decent quality mixed airless gun for the money that will spray the really thick materials?
Good quality, used, older guns are fine too since if they’re in good condition you can often get more machine for the money.

Here’s some useful info…
I’ve sprayed resin with a grayco magnum and the largest tip possible. So long as you have some one mixing and spraying you can use this. The pumps that internal mix are very expensive. They mix resin and catalyst for you. The grayco will not. But they are cheap and easy to fix and repair.
Has anyone used a suction spray gun like this for spraying gel-coats?
I was going to buy the typical gel-coat cup gun, but thought I’d see if anyone has had success with the suction style first since it’s a third the cost.
