Spraying Gel Coat

Hey guys. My molds are coming out great. but i think i want to step up a notch in life and put more money into this.

i wanna buy a good 2-3 gallon compressor, not to big either, not to expensive and also a gel coat gun. any links? i kinda needs this asap. im in the US, anyone have anything on ebay that might be good?

did you fix the problems we discussed?

Yes sort of. What i did was chopped up some fiber, and filled it where the corners are… worked well… i also have fiberglass mat now. =)

now im just looking for a spray gun, and compressor… anyone? =|

i got my huge I think it is an 45 gallon compressor at harbour freight for $295 at their sidewalk sale.

To Chelapa and problems, it would help others to help you if you’d would list where you are from on your bio…

If in So. Calif. try JR Tools / AJ Tools @ 6925 Paramount Blvd., Long Beach, Ca. 90805 (562) 630-2270
They are a direct importer that Harbor Freight buys from…

There’s also a company named Northern something that has great prices too and is in mid USA?

Oopps sorry, from NYC =.

just need something quiet, and small… enough hp’s and psi to push out the gel coat smoothly.

i would think that any hardware store would stock a small compressor. you’ll need a good water trap. and ask at your local car body shop, where they got their spray guns from.
that’s what i’m going to do. but i’m in the uk and i know that places not too far from me sell all this stuff.

L.

i hear thou there are 2 types of pumps. ones with a wheel? and another with a piston type. wheel = quiet… no1 in the US knows website i can go to… and can i use a reg. ordinary gun for lets say painting cars etc. the ones with an almunium can?

Graingers sells all kinds of equipment. I am not sure of the website.

Buy an oil air pump or with the oiless air compressor your neighbors wil want to kill you from the noise they make…

whats a nice quiet type then that would be ok for a touch up size gun for gelcoat and clearcoat? and possibly a sander/polisher.

I think you answered your own question.

The 1st thing to do when shopping for a compressor is to figure out what tools you want to plug into it. Sanders, bead blasters, and some paint guns require A LOT of air. Find the tool that has the highest SCFM at XX psi consumption that you will be using and then find a compressor that will meet those air needs - many recommend 25 - 50% over capacity to prevent the compressor from running continuously and burning up the motor. Without knowing the requirements of your air tools, it’s impossible to tell you what compressor to buy.

well thats why im asking if anyone knows of a gun that doesnt need as much psi and scfm. the one i saw was 119.$ requires 5.6 scfm at 90 psi?
