Hi all,
I would appreciate suggestion to solve the following problem:
Spray adhesive for fixing pvc panels to skin before infusing: tried Aerofix3 and 3M W27 but nothing works correctly; after one minute panels move freely as if no adhesive was sprayed. Beside it seems that, after few minutes, the adhesive dries and becomes powder, so this becomes a problems also for fixing subsequent skins.
Maybe some error in the application procedure or the wrong adhesive ?
Is there some tape, resin compatible , that can be used to join and fix the pvc panels ?
Thank you all
Didn’t see that you’re attaching pvc panels. Well, you need to thermo-form the panels to avoid the spring back that could make any spray adhesive useless. You can thermo form it by heating it to 75-80degC under a bit of vacuum.
Try Aerotac II or Econotac from Airtech. We have never had an issue with it, for mold making, but we don’t use any adhesive to fix the aircraft part laminates.
I totally agree with you…but fortunately this is not an aircraft project.
I will try the products you mention.
Thank you
AerotacII does not exist, it is called Airtac2. Which in my opinion is one of the better glues. (definately better than econotac)
Hi Hermann,
yes…from catalogue Airatc 2 the correct name . Do you think it would solve the problem associated with pvc adhesion on plies ?
If used to glue the first skin ( carbon fabric for aesthetic purposes, then transparent) to the mould, does it leave visible traces in the resin ?
Thank you again
You can try the cheap spray adhesive from www.werkstattprodukte.de works fine, I always use it.
Airtac2 or Aerofix2 also work well, but to fix a foam core you have to preform it if needed.
DDCompound,
just to avoid translation from german…which is the name of the product you are referring to ?
Pro 416 SL Spruhkleber
(at least that was the only spray glue I found.
Do a side-by-side test with for instance Airtac2, and make your choice.
Like herman said. Sprühkleber=spray adhesive
Only use a light mist, the tack is really good.
Spray tack is good for medium duty non conventional bonding.
Scotch weld is a great glue that dries fast and is very durable. Check out scotch weld dp129
Ah, yes, Herman, thanks for correcting my spelling error. We use both and I’m not too happy with empty cans of these collecting in our facility…
Wings: whether you use this on an aircraft part or not, preforming PVC for anything thicker than 3mm will generally help you immensely in avoiding problems with voids, which will drink resin and eventually cause exotherm havoc, and deformation of shape, whether due to resin shrinkage or due to curing temperature issues. If your part is a flat plate, no issues, else, try thermoforming. At least you can preform using a hot air blower like boat builders do.
I am interested in this question too. Is there a tack spray that dosen’t affect surface finish if used directly on the mould? The other problem is the tack spray residue left on the mould after demoulding the part.
