Has anyone used spectra as a reinforcement? I am developing armor for a high-speed, low-temperature application that will see numerous small-area impacts, with abrasion possible. From what I’ve read on the material, it would be ideal for my application…but I can’t find any information regarding it’s compatibility with resins, how well it wets out and lays up…etc.

we had prepreg spectra at the place I worked at before, but we never used, actually just recentely tossed it because it was really old. I know it was really exspensive. I think its very similiar to how kevlar is with epoxy. thats about all i know
WE have been experimenting (it is great to have students that want to work outside of the box on these things…) with leaving old CF PP out & air cured flat but then using it in a wet lay up (Epoxy resin) for flat panels, vacuum bagging it. Soon we will try some molds with it and has been fairly successfull with using it that way!
