So pissed, part 2!

Well i was infusing last night and i think i put way to much MKEP. ive always tried epoxy, and this is the 2nd time using Ester.

if i had 200 grms of ester, i should put 3 grms of mkep right!? or am i wrong??

also, it catalyzed way to quick inside the mold. almost 3/4 , or more down the way… im trying to see how i can fix it. if i put a resin line from the vac side, and the vac line on the other end again. and put resin in again, do you think it will bind together???

Each ester manufacturer pre-promotes there resins diferently.

Some require 1% like U.S. Composites. Or another local brand we use requires 2%. So if your doing the math…if you make a mistake by using 2% mekp on a resin that only requires 1% it will cure WAY to fast.

I believe BazNos said you can re-infused an unfinished infusion. Just make sure you dont let it sit for more than 2 days. After that VE really doesnt like to stick to itself.

It also depends on the room temp, moisture in the air and laminate thickness.

On some hand laid thin race car body panels I have had to use up to 10% MEKP by “eye estimates” (my eyes are calibrated every century…)!

But thick PER clear casting as little as 1/4% MEKP weighed.

ok im going to reinfuse it tonight! =) thanks for the insight. ill keep u guys posted.

Yeah when its cold…on poly resin Ive run 5-6% catalyst and not had it kick on me so fast I couldnt get the mold done.

More than that and too thin of lines and Im in trouble.

I was trying to be clever the other day and mixed a little too much epoxy did the two intended infusions and had another one just about ready so decided to use the excess up, SILLY move it kicked after 75% of the way down, i let it set then lifted the border tape laid another short piece on the flange set another tube in, pulled the vac and checked all ok and completed the infusion. Absolutely perfect so if you mess up all is not lost just don`t panic.

Baz

re-infusing it worked! the only thing was, i HATE kevlar. it has such a bad pattern and its so bad to cut at the end. im not going to make anymore kev. parts. sticking to carbon  pics coming soon

On cutting Kevlar, get a small table top bandsaw and invert the blade to point upwards!
