So I got resin in my pump...........................

So I was infusing a part today I some how managed to get resin in my pump… I was using a “pvc tube” resin trap which is probably half full (cured resin) and managed to get resin into the pump. by the time i noticed, there was already some going in.

Is it possible to take it apart and salvage it? or am i SOL and need a new pump?

Take it apart and clean it up. Even if you screw up, at least you have tried. Try to get the non return valve apart, you might bust the valve and/or the seat or spring. See if you can take the vanes and the vane springs out and clean them.

And buy a decent trap…

What Herman said. Take it apart and see what you can do. Should be all metal, so you can sometimes scrape off cured resin. See if you can get the service manual for your pump. I took apart my dual piston dry pump very quickly and easily to clean out any dust I got in it over the years. Was simple for my pump!
Get a plexiglass tube next time if you plan on using that type of trap, or check it EVERY TIME. Or don’t get resin in it…ever.

Is your pump toast, or were you able to clean it out?

Yesterday I opened my old Agramkov vacuum pump because it worked really weak. Everything was much easier than I initially thought. Cleaned it and now the pump sounds much smoother.
Try opening the beast, you cant do anything wrong.

Go to Harbor Freight and purchase a pressure pot. I just purchased one Friday and its just as good as the $400 airtech one.

Harbor Freight is really cool, they also have vacuum pumps in stock!

^ They have lots of pumps in stock LOL! Mine break down about every 6 months so I just do a warrantee return.

I have been using the same Robinair 15600 6 CFM pump for the last 6 years with no problems. I do get supplies and tools from HF I just would never get a vaccum pump from them. Just my personal opinion.
