Does this happen with all epoxies? I mixed both parts as per the directions. This stuff smokes right before it starts to gel. I only mixed 2 fluid ounces.
It’s supposed to one of the safer epoxies i think. 2:1 mix ratio.

this is normal. chemical reaction creates exotherm, larger masses create higher temp, which can cause smoke. dont breath the smoke in, very bad
yeah, i got a couple wiffs of the smoke, didn’t realize the cup was gassing off until i smelled something odd. I’ll definately watch it from here on out, make sure i don’t breath in the smoke.
At a former job we used small quanities of epoxy for gluing metal letters to sheet metal pieces. Well the letters had to be arranged onto the metal just right and cured in an oven. Gotta pull them out of the oven every 45 second to straighten the letters back up then put it back into the oven to cure. I think one of the ladies i worked with got cancer from the epoxy smoke. She came down with pancreatic cancer and died one year after being diagnosed. Maybe it wasn’t the epoxy, maybe it contributed i don’t know. We used the type of hardener that smoked right out of the bottle… put like 15 drops per ounce of resin, real thin stuff.
anytime I see resin smoking I will put it outside, so I dont breathe it, and just in case it catches on fire, but I have yet to see it happen
Always have a half full bucket of water just outside of your work area for hot batches to be thrown in!
When walking with a smoking batch, hold it behind you and not in front of you…
Lesson learned. I didn’t realize this type of epoxy would smoke like it does. I do keep a container of water handy.
HaaHaa…we all learn like that.
My best time was when I felt a still half full plastic cup of epoxy getting REALLY hot.
When I poured it out to spread out the mass, a large solid lump came out with it.
I knew I was in trouble then!
yeah, water bath is good. Around here, we stick all tubs of epoxy and resins IN buckets of water to keep cooled while infusing. Some require ice in the bucket (depending on size, resin, etc)
well, the bad thing about cold is that the resin thickens a bit… i prefer just to mix smaller quantities and make a few each time if im working on a large part… or to get help so we can work faster 4 hands is better than one
