I just got a SMC vacuum switch ZSE50F-T2-62L
And I cannot find nowhere how to connect this to my vacuum pump
It has 5 colors electric wires
Black. White. Grey. Blue and Brown
The fitting is NPT 1/4 male
My vacuum pump is an Edwards E2M8
If somebody know how to connect it to be able to stop and start the vacuum when needed I would appreciate a lot
Also if I need a relay which kind?
Thanks
You need a relais (perferably solid state) and a power supply.
The power supply should feed the SMC.
One of the SMC wires should actuate the relais (with the other end of the relais a black wire to the neutral of the power supply.
As for the colours of the SMC,I am not familiar with them. Find a user manual on the internet.
Setting the SMC is some work too, you need to set it either to PNP or NPN (I believe the latter) and when using a mechanical relais, gamble the connection on the pump end right as well. But that is a matter of testing.
When setting the vacuum level in the SMC, set it to -0,5 bar (or whatever the unit is of your version) instead of 0,5 bar. Saves you a lot of time testing (been there, done that…)
Did anybody come up with any specific solutions for this? I am in the same predicament where I cannot even get the SMC powered on…but I don’t have a relay.
If you have the same type, you have to power it with 12 or 24 VDC. To switch it analog you have to wire the gray with the black or white to a SSR. I’ve the same kind of SMC switch but it is a long time ago that I connected it.
I found a manual online here: http://content.smcetech.com/pdf/ZSE_ISE50_60.pdf
The 62L in the part number appears to specify the type of output which in your case would be PNP. The wiring diagram is on page 751 of the PDF. The outputs can not handle more than 80 mA DC, so you will need a relay to operate the pump. If you use a mechanical relay, it would probably be wise to put a flyback diode on the coil.
Good Luck
Will do a tutorial in short notice. Probably next week

This guy has a huge power supply (where the relay is mounted) to power his digital switch. Maybe that’s what I’m missing…
Anybody have an idea of the brand and model switch & power supply?
