Small project help

I’m thinking about trying to do a very small project on my car with carbon fiber. There are two small parts that I would like to have done in carbon fiber but I’m not sure how to go about doing this. Right now I have an overlay on the part that I bought from someone and it looks great but there is a sharp corner and I always seem to catch it on something when I’m washing the car or even when I’m just getting in it. I was thinking there has to be a way around this and still have a good looking part. Here are a couple of pictures of what I’m wanting to work on. In the 1st picture there is a vinyl sticker over the area that I’m wanting to have carbon fiber. The second picture is to give you more of an idea of the shape of the part (it’s # 12). The 1st picture isn’t my car. Tomorrow I’ll get a picture of my car so you can see more clearly what I’m wanting to do.

here are my current overlays I would like to make the final product look like this but have it wrap around the edges so there is nothing to snag on the corners

Ok well I’ve been looking at this part trying to figure out the best way to get this thing covered. Right now I’m thinking of making a mold of the face. I figure then I could glue the carbon fiber overlay have it wrap around the corners of the part. Then I could also trim the bottom so it would still match the rubber weather strip on the door

I make a similar product. You can either wrap the original piece or take a mold. After adding material of equal thickness of the carbon to the part and then mold as usual.

Very cool is that an overlay?

yeah, those are permanently bonded to the OE pieces, I actually switched up now though and just sell them as an attached overlay piece. I wasn’t getting the core units back from alot of people and having to buy new ones from the dealer.

you have some neat stuff CD…you should write up a tutorial or two on the overlays.

That overlay stuff is much harder than making complete parts.
