Silicone bags

Hi I am looking for a good source of silicone to make a reusable bag, preferrably a brush on application. I make helmets and want to make a bag that fits mold for bagging and resin infusion.
is it possbile to make bag with the flow medium integrated on the inside of the bag?

Thanks in advance
tom

I can’t think of any companies off the top of my head, but I DO believe at least one company does make silicone bagging that takes away the need for flow media.

they posted a video of the process they use, worth checking them out.

vacuspray is a very expensive process that requires a special spray gun and also the purchase of there license. compositesone sells onepart brush on silicones and also sells spray on.

Hojo, how do you attach the vacuum and resin line to the spray on or brush on vacuum bag?

there are special fittings you can glue in with the silicone. there is also a reinforcment mesh that you will want to laminate in to the bag to keep it from tearing

i am working on silicone bagging goalie masks. i am using silicone from http://www.arctekinfusion.com/.

the infusion port is made of silicone so it is attached using silicone.

this particular process has a brush on silicone and then uses a plenum ring with a rubber gasket as the seal. the vacuum is attached to this ring.

check out the site when you get a chance, it explains it better

There’s a company called Smooth-On. They sell a silicone material for building a reuseable bag. Haven’t used this but have used other products from this company.

I’ve worked with the ez brush silicone bagging material. Pretty durable stuff. Lay it up thick and you can’t tear it. Biggest downfall is it entraps A LOT of air bubbles during bag creation. Degassing is mandatory and you’ll still see bubbles in your finished piece. So good stuff… but nah.

I’m working with Stabond-(Gardena California) right now on an Infusion
Bag for a production mold set.
They visited my shop this past Friday. Certainly a sharp group if engineers and nice guys as well.
I’ll note the outcome if it’s not proprietary.

Very interested to hear the report if it’s public info. I have a production mold I would enjoy the use of a reuseable bag.

There’s a good write-up about rvb’s in the new Composites Technology magazine . Here’s a link to the online article .

I’ve been using these with great results and like anything else , practice makes perfect .

Great article

are the smooth on silicone bags any good for decretive carbon work?? or is it just not as reliable for a flawless finish like the regular methods, very interested in this subject

Stabond has a silicone that you can brush,

Gabriel do tell! What are minimum quantities and work times etc ?
