shrank problem

how long should we keep the part in the mold before we can pop out the part so it won’t be deformed under the sun? I had many experiences with parts that deform to a very bad shape under the sun (even not under the sun), I use general purpose polyester resin and left the part for two-three days.

Or any solution for this?

Sounds like you are undercatalsting the resin and that will make the full cure cycle longer to finish.

Might be what and how much fabric you are using, and what direction it is being layed. I’ve had some test pieces warp very badly as well. One was just a single layer, and the other two were 2 layers, 90/45.

Material has two directions, warp and fill.

Material has two faces, warp face and fill face.

The warp and fill have different properties.

When you put a 90 and 45 together it will pull in two directions.

If it were plain weave it probally wouldnt matter.

But if it were a balanced laminate with equal amounts of 90 and 45 it would be better. More like for each -45 there is a +45, for every 0 there is a 90. They must be in matched pairs in the layup and not necessarly next to each other.

seens like there’s a lot more things need to be considerded during the laying process. Thank you guys for answer my questions. btw I am almost out of raw materials does any one know where I can purchase fiberglass cloth at the local composite stores around southern CA?

If you are signed up for my GGROP class, we always have a remant scrap barrell that is free to any current student to use or take home.

And I give out a booklet listing the local Plastics plants, suppliers and manufacturers too!

I would love to take that class but my time is too packed. Can I get the booklet without sign up for the class?

his booklet has some AWESOME info!
