securing part on mold with semi perm

I have experience with both semi perm and wax and I love how easy the semi perm works (after I get over and swallow the cost). I love how you can “test” if the surface is ready by doing the “tape test” but here comes my issue. How do you secure fabric, tubing, peel ply, resin flo, etc to the mold now, since the tape doesnt stick…

Spray glue usually holds, and flash tapes as well. At least enough for infusion.

do you use the spray glue on the mold too? or just between layers?

What are you referring to as flash tape? like the aluminum tape for flashing?

Yes you spray on mold but only a light mist. Flash tape is a thin plastic tape designed for in mold use. Airtech and I believe ACP sell it.

It’s a low, mid or high temp tape that is used to secure items in composites. At times you can use it along a part edge to hold release film to size (prepregs), or use along the tool part edge, to break off any flash that happens to the edge of part.

flash: excess leakage of resin, normally in thin films. Think of the mold part line in a milk jug.

tip: put a thin not too deep score mark along the periphery of the mold to act as your guide line which you will not place semi parm past. When you lay down your sealant tape overlap this line by 1/8 inch. This will prevent the sealant tape from coming up by adhering strongly to the part unselaed with semiperm while having a small buffer zone where there is semi perm. This way you can release from the entire infused surface but have excellent adhesion to the flange with the tape…

Gotcha, I’m only asking because I have some tape which looks like Whatyyou guys are referring to as flashing tape but its tape I use for powder coating… I use it to mask of portions I do not want covered in paint and then it gets baked at 450-500*… I also tried it out to seal/join the seams of the flanges of one of my molds and turned out well
