sealey leak detector

anybody used one of these? seems pretty cheap, i’m thinking of buying an ultrasonic leak detector but don’t want to spend too much.

Although I have not tried the unit in the link, I have tried several similar units, which rely on an ultrasound source for detection.

These units all failed to work in a composites environment. They do not detect the low volume sounds that are produced by vacuum leaks.

Think of it this way:

This unit is designed to detect a truck airhorn from 1 meter distance. You want a unit that can detect someone whispering from 100 meters away…

Sensitivity just does not make it.

at five pounds it does make it into the “cheap” category though  Most of them that i have seen start around $175. Never hurts to ask.

Can someone recommend a good one to start with please?

Either the Airtech one or the Inficon one. I must admit I have both lying around, but still need to do a side-to-side test. (also have a much more expensive unit. Will it be a better unit??

I don’t suppose you want to sell me one?

I recently contacted a couple of UK companies to get a quote for the Inficon Whisper and found that it is cheaper to buy one from the US(even paying the duty) Try Ebay

Yes i noticed this too!
contacted Javac and the price from them was £213 plus 20% vat +shipping
a bit hefty for me as i’m just starting out.

I have had success using a stethascope (spelling) the thing the doc listens to your heart with.

Stethoscope FTW!!! I have 5 or six in my toolbox!!! Works great
