Scam, Mailed Wells Fargo check....

This may have been around here or not, but the backdoor neighbors recieved a letter (not registered) stating they won a Canadian contest that they had entered (she does enter many contests) and won $250,000!

They had sent a $4,900.00 (+) Wells Fargo check that looked so real, my wife that teaches ROP bank stated it was a real check.

I told her to take the check to a Wells Fargo bank, ask if they did have an account with them, if this check was legal and have them call the number on the letter for her.

Well, the neighbor lady made the call to the number herself (I sure hope it wasn’t one of those $100 per minute calls…) and they told her that the check was real, for her to deposit it in her checking acct, to send them a tracking acct. number and a check for $2,000 for handling and they would send the balance of the $250,000!

After hearing that, she took my advice, went to a Well’s Fargo bank and yes, they had 2x others come in that day with the same fake check. The only difference in the check was the quailty of the paper that they use. It was that good! Wells Fargo bank is going after these scumbags now!

Just a note, in canada we don’t charge people for winning contests, even our lotteries are tax free! that means when you win 20 million in the lotto you pick up a check for 20 million, not 5 like you do in the us.

Not to slam any Canadians at all.

The thing was that the check looked so real, it fooled a banking teacher…I just posted this to informed people.

I didn’t take it as a slam, just letting people know that we don’t tax any lottery or contest winnings here. It is the only, and I mean ONLY, thing we are not taxed up the wazzoo for.
