Sandpaper....

Ok, the school has finally gave me some budget money (thanks Arnold for stealing school’s money…) to spend on my free ROP Plastics job training program.
Usually, the finest sandpaper I get is 600 grit (I just tell them worn out 600 is like 800+ grit sandpaper), but with moving more into the high end composites, I want to get some 800, 1000, 1200 & 1500 grit sandpaper for the students to use…but I priced them at MacFadden Dale hardware (Local supplier with everything industrial) and for a sleeve (Peral brand) was like $45.00 per 50 sheets, or $1.00 per sheet! Granted, they always sell the best quality products, but…I got to spread what little I get a long ways.

I’m going to surf the web this weekend looking for a better deal on sandpaper but where do you get these sandpaper grits, what brand & how much do you spend on a sleeve of them?

How about micro ballons (I have several just graduated from HS students that are big on doing speaker enclosures) but I was going to try and see if I can get Coastal Ent. (Pur foam sheet maker near us…) to give us their PUR saw dust and mix that with PER for a paste. Anyone try that?

How about PE Fleese? I have a adult student that is going to research a supplier in the garment district in downtown LA in the next week or so.

I’ve used paper from these guys from 80 grit up to 1200.
Probably not the cheapest around, but it’s good quality.

They have a retail division more geared towards woodworking:

Ex. > box of 50, 9"x11" 1000 grit = $21.60

Above 1000 grit I’ve been using 3m paper I get locally since I don’t use it in large quantities.

I try to buy from kingspore as well.

Local auto paint stores sell it for cheaper than you are talking about as well.

I have been using klingspore since 96? and have yet to have a problem with any product they have sold me. You can work with them as well on price, they like to not negotiate but they will almost always.

i am looking to get a set of sand papers most grits rangnig form 80-1200. i am just starting to get into composites and i want to have paper ready for when i need it
