Where do you guys sand your parts? how do you prevent dust flying everywhere? because everytime after I sand my parts, I feel I am cover by all those dust. I use dremel and sand paper.
attach a hose to a breath mask, and put it against your part. when you breath it will keep the dust off of you. LMAO im kidding, i had for awhile a shop vac (quiet ) and use a clamp to hold it against or near my parts when sanding and cutting. HELPED a lot!
I sand in front of our portable spray booth, turn it on, and aim the exhuast out into the parking lot. I still get plenty of dust in the shop. I also have a palm sander with a vacuum hook up (works really good).
Another option I use is to set the part on a table in the opening of the bay door and aim an air mover directly at me. Once again sending glass debris into the parking lot.
If you can afford it get a down draft table.
Right now I am using a blast cabinet (small parts)to keep dust flying around. But I will be sanding big parts soon and big parts won’t fit in there.
stand in front of a box fan
But won’t that just blow the sanding dust back onto yourself?
Try looking up DIY sites for wood working as there are many plans to make your own down draft sanding table. A older neighbor friend of mine made one and IF I can find the time I’ll take a photo or 2x of it and post it here.

down draft table!! Whilst a bit expensive for a hobbiest, I think there are ways to make one. It’s a big grated top table, a few baffles before a VERY large filter. Under the filter there is another set of baffels and a catch pan. You can reverse purge the filter to blow it out as well. I heart it.
at home, I wetsand in my sink with a dremmel (with flex-arm attachment). That can suck after awhile, but if you have a high faucet, it might not be so bad. Just remember to wd-40 the dremmel alot!
Picture would help alot.
Of course, I have pictures of most all of the classroom and equipments except our sanding area!
I’ll take them tonight and post them here sometime tomorow…
i mean stand on the back side of it so the fan pulls the dust away from you. When the fan gets dirty, just blow it off.
Here’s some pictures of my old classroom down draft sanding table…
Another veiw…
The hose and blast gate shot!
JM…its so nice and tidy, just like my shop when I’m dreaming, lol.

I wish I have one of those, who build those? is it loud?
Werks: What kind of vacuum source are you using for your DD table? Would a 5HP shop vac work well?
It was our small Torit dust collector that worked for all those sanding and grinders, but you only opened the blast gate of the piece of equipment that you were using…or the students was suppose to!
Yes, a shop vac can be use or like my nieghbor made one from house hold roof power vent too!
I’ll try and get pic’s of that later on but I’m down with a bug right now…
Try checking out some wood working sites and they might have online plans for them…
