SAMPE Composite trade show....

Well, I made it to SAMPE on Wed. and it was great! I was able to talk to many companies about their new products and there was many new ideas / technology being shown too!

I did talk to many of the LARGE companies about this forum and invited them to join in to post their dist. that sells their product lines, if they don’t like dealing with the start ups and small businesses. Most like the idea and I’ll be following that idea up asap.
I even ask them if they wanted feedback or to bounce new products ideas out to the public, they could do it on this forum.

I even bumped into a very old friend from my ACVW world that I have not seen in 5 or 6 years!

I did take some pictures and was working on posting into a online photo book but 1x disc is screwing it up…but I’ll get it done soon.

Wait till you see pictures of the rear, DBL. Harley Davidson engine (intercooled turbo charged too…) car that was in the Airtech booth!

Anyone else that went to SAMPE want to share their experience there?

Here’s some of the pictures but I still have another disk that may be bad…:frowning:

JM

Did you get any pictures at the Freeman Supply stand?

Ahhh, no… but I did talked to them and the guy that does their DVD’s too! Great people and I’m going to send them a link to this forum for them to post new products and ideas here too!

lets here about the kevlar cutting tools

Any word at SAMPE on when the little guys will be able to get carbon fiber again?

The feeling that I got when I walked the show was still one of frustration and dismay over supply.

In most of the trade magazines is talk about increased production. The most recent issue (May 2006) of Composites Manufacturing has an article about supply which states that production is set to grow more than 22% this year and predicted to grow 27% in 2007. But the article ends by saying really that the gap should not open up till 2007.

JM, I was there all day on Wednesday, where were you?

Any one see the 2 Phase booth/demo. I’m interested in hearing what others thought about it.

Shredder:
The pictures of the electric power wheels and other Kevlar tools (that large flat machine behind the long shot was a fully automatic Gerber type roll cutting machine and they were throwing out a trash bin full of Kevlar per day…except on Wed. they allowed a certain teacher to walk out with a large bag stuff full of the Kevlar cutting scraps…) was a certain large company and I can’t find their business card right now.

As I stated in a post earlier, I talked to alot of the big names in the field and offer that if they wanted to come on here and list some of their smaller dealers to promotoe more business thru them (I do this with my own business dealers), it would be great for all concerned. I figured to give them a week or so to recoop before sending out an E-mail link to this forum. We’ll see.
Also, a company in So. Calif. area, TPI, reportally has succeeded in dying Fiberglass black too…

Glenn, I got there somewhere around 1pm as I had some “dealings” with the school before getting to leave…and left just before closing.

Hey, whats that spray on vacuum bagging stuff from ACTR?

www.actr.com and it is a fast drying flexible spray on that can used once or versatilte as a reuseable resaelable bag too!

Custom form fit everytime without any darts, seams, wrinkles and no leaks!

Tell them you read it here…

Werksberg, who is the company making the kevlar rotary cutters?

tom

I have lots if you want some small peices. pay shipping? will have to de starch them to use though.

tom

How does that vacuum bag spray work? I looked at the ACTR site and cant figure it out?

You spray it on…then it cures? After it cures is it flexible enough for you to install your vacuum hose fitting and then apply a vacuum?

Well, you can use a tool / mold mounted vacuum port or a top mounted one with nylon peel ply disc with the fitting taped until after you spray and then remove the tape.

Best thing to do, is too E-mail them and tell them we are discussing their product on here and if they want to chim in…

Werksberg-

Good call on the email idea…this stuff sounds really cool and I have some seriously complex shaped parts that are too hard to vacuum bag with the conventional bags…but with the spray on stuff…this would open alot of new doors for me.

I have seen but done this personally, It was for a hood mold, They squirted out a caulking gun tube of white silicone, squeegeed it all over the mold to about 1/16" thick, let it tack a bit then put on a layer of veil, sqeegeed it on and squirted out another tube of silicone and squeegeed it out. they said the resultant bag was good for about a year then they just made a new one. looked like normal GE silicone but could have been something special. They told me it works without the veil but tears easier so they use the veil to make it last longer.

bricklin, ya…I guess it could be done that way and the surfacing Veil would act as a reinforcement just like FG (veil is FG), Kevlar or CF.

But, this is a spray on version.

I have uploaded (saved a few more, but took way too long…) several more pictures from Sampe: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/werksberg@sbcglobal.net/album?.dir=76c9scd&.src=ph

Check out the rear, twin engined, turbocharged, intercooled Harley Davidson powered car!

Also the Torr RVB systems too…

Could you post a pic of the peel ply disk??

I am going to order this stuff and give it a try, making bags for hood skins and frames take for ever and this could be my knight in shining armor!

Wooohooo. They are only a 2 hour drive from me in Provo UT!!

I am going to go down their for a demo
