RTM, VARTM, etc etc...

hi is there a glossary lol. Im reading through threads and dont understand some of the shorthand words and what they are.

G:confused:

rtm = resin transfer molding, somewhat similar to injection molding in plastics, but youā€™d be forcing resin into a reinforcement while compressed in the tooling.

vartm = vacuum assisted resin transfer molding.

infusion for moulds is this then?

if you mean vacuum bagging a mold with fabric in it, and sucking resin into the part by using vacuum. yes.
RTM and VARTM are the same almost, one uses pressure to force the resin into the part, and the other uses vacuum to pull it through. It is what most people call ā€œinfusionā€, or VIP (vacuum infusion process)

i know fusion well but pushing into the mould using pressure? any diagrams or pics of this process.

on that last link, look at the sourcesā€¦there are some good ones.

netcomposites is very good. Understand now. just shorthand words were catching me out.

Yup, they do that. Itā€™s always nice to get sorted out when one starts a hobby!
