RTM using foam molds

Hello everyone . Can anynone help me in some things about RTM using foam molds ?

  1. is it possible ?
  2. what accuracy it has ?
  3. what density of foam is best ( i mean very thick etc) ?
  4. and how is it possible to make it ( does it need extra reinforcing rods or something like this ?

The puprose is to make model aircraft wing using foam molds .
Dimensions are about 2.5 meters* 0.41 meters .

Thanks in advance . If you hace extra videos or pdf about this it would really help .

I haven’t heard of anyone doing real RTM with foam… it might be possible but, highly dependent on the foam and the amount of pressure being used. If you’re not able to use more than 14psi, then it’s not worth it. We do use foam molds for OOA parts and they work pretty well for R&D stuff. Maybe if you use the high desnsity 72lb PCF foam and it’s thick enough? Maybe look up the spec sheets and see what the strength is. ALso call the manufacturers and ask them if they have anyone doing that to their knowledge.

It’s probably doable to some extent, for a demo maybe.
