resistance welding tape

Hello,

I’m a student at the Aeronautical Engeneering Department of the Haarlem University in the Netherlands. At this moment, I’m having a trainee post at a company who is specialised in making products from composite materials. I’m working on a project about resistance welding of composite materials. My job is to find a production method for making large thermoplastic tapes that can be used as heating elements for the welding process.
The tape consist about metal wires (for the welding process), with on both sides a layer of PPS (Polyphenylene Sulphide) and a fiberglass coating (to prevent overheating).
My question is if there are some production methods known for making large welding tapes?
Are there relatively simple methods, so I can build a construction by myself?

Greetz,
Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Welcome to the forum. I kept quiet for a few days hoping someone with more knowledge in this area would jump in and help you out. Anyway, I’m in touch with a few colleagues that might be able to answer your question. So be patience and hopefully I will have something for you soon.

Thanks,
Evan
