Resin/Vacuum Canister

Just bought this today at “Big Lots” for $5, toss in another $5 for the brass hose barb fittings. It’s only one quart size, but i am just infusing small parts. I’m liking it for the price  It has a rubber gasket to seal the top. Also had fun walking around the store looking at all the “this and that.”

That’ll work!

Half the fun is McGuyverin’ stuff together to make it all work!

yeah it is fun sometimes  I was going to spend $65 for a pressure paint pot, but eh didn’t really have the extra money to spend for it.

cool, I’m using a pickle jar for my degas chamber right now, works very well! but funny as hell.

haha, I have a few pickles to polish off from a BIG jar, that has been my plan since I got them!

heck yeah… i’m going to have to buy a pickle jar then. I pulled so much vacuum it cracked the plastic top on this rigged up resin pot i put together yesterday. It cracked the .075" thick acrylic plastic top. Good thing i ran a vacuum test with it before infusing.

I am constantly worried about the jar imploding, now that I think of it I will wrap it in clear packing tape just incase.

jesus christ guys, pay the extra $ for a nice product. come on i get paint pressure pots for 39$! u get a great seal, no implouding… come on, theres cheap, but theres safety.

theres nothing wrong with making your own catch pot. I do it all the time. I have used glass jars, they never imploud, never leak. and it looks like fastrr made a nice one for 5 bucks. don’t forget, this is a hobbyist website, not everyone here has the money to invest in expensive equipment. this $5 dollar pressure pot will do the same job as any $40-$300 pressue pot would do, so why pay more? cheers to all the mcguyvers out there

How about a pressure pot made from a used LPG cylinder? Other than a few cheap fittings, that would be FOC.

pvc pitting works great too. about $30 all said and done wiht guage.

you can make from many different items. I have another one made from some large 5 gallon metal electrical cover that is open on the bottom, I have a silicon seal on the bottom, I use it to degass my resin, just drop it over my cup on to a flat glass or gelcoat surface for 5 minutes, it gets an amazing seal without any leaks

I wasn’t worried so much about implosion, just once it cracked the lid I knew it wasn’t going to work. I’ll just try something else and use this canister to hold acetone… after i fix the cracks and plug the holes in the lid LOL.

Cheapest paint pressure pot here i can find new is $65 or so. I’ll try one more time to make one… if that fails then i’ll just buy a paint pot.

I found a glass jar works great, and its got a metal top with rubber seal, you can easily pipe your fitting in. and you can find a glass jar just about anywheres for free, and if not go buy a jar of pickles

problem is i’ll be eating pickles for a year lol

ha, I just throw them away. pickles are good, but not that good

Any good Deli should have plenty of large pickle jars kicking around. I use a 5 gal paint bucket with a home made lexan top and a silicone gasket.

Knotty, I thought you had two really long PVC canisters?

I’ll look for a pickle jar lol the bucket sounds super-ghetto:D just kidding

Yup I do Fastrr but I use the bucket for degassing paints & resins & stuff. Even considered doin’ the cat once after she knocked my laptop off the table! evil grin

I broke down and purchased the Harbor Freight $50 paint pressure pot to use as a vacuum/resin catch.

It works great so far. I just unscrewed that entire valve assembly that comes with it and put my own valve and vacuum gauge on it. No more worries about resin reaching my vac gauge, ball valve, or the vacuum pump.

I also obtained a better infusion with this last one I did.

lol, yeah i would have infused the cat.
