Resin question!

I have made a few small moulds and when I try to infuse them I get no resin in the tight corners! I have tried pressing the lay up into the corners but I cant seem to make this work. How can I get more resin into the corners? Wet lay up? The parts dont have to be strong just look good! I have been trying to get this right for months!

Fill the troubled corners with a filler to form a fillet.

whats filler?

powder, mixed into your resin, so it forms a paste.

Also possible to prevent bridging is filling the internal corners with “gusset filler” which is a braided glass or carbon string of filaments, available in different thicknesses, which can be pressed in. A cheap version is rolling a bit of UD glass, or fiddling around with gun roving.

Getting your fabric in the corners is key anyhow.

try to get some of the flow media into the corners as well…

remember its ok to push your fingers on the bag to work it into the corners. also try and work the resin to the corners with less vacuum at first then when its wet out bring it to full vacuum.

you might try building a vacuum bleeder type thing that will let you control it better… basically a tee at the pump inline that has a valve that you can open and close it introduce a leak. helps when you debulk to work the bag in place.

Be careful when pushing your fingers into the bags. Even the smoothest tools or fingernails will puncture through a bag. I’d recommend Stretchlon 800 (A fly can puncture through stretchlon 200) or try that blue stretching bag from www.expresscomposites.com. They sent me a small sample and I vacuum bagged a tail light after laminating it in CF. This stuff works great. Its a very thick heavy bag with decent elasticity to it.

Heres a pic.
